At St Gregory the Great Parish, the Sacraments are at the heart of our faith life—sacred encounters with Christ that mark key moments in our spiritual journey. From Baptism to Confirmation, Holy Communion to Reconciliation, Matrimony to Anointing of the Sick, and Funerals, each sacrament is celebrated with reverence, community support, and pastoral care. Whether you’re preparing for a joyful milestone or seeking comfort in times of need, our parish walks with you in faith, offering guidance, prayer, and the grace of God’s presence.
Baptism
St Gregory the Great Parish warmly welcomes families preparing for their child’s baptism. Baptism as a vital step in a child’s faith journey. At least one parent must be Catholic, and one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic. Baptisms are held fortnightly during weekend Masses. Families are encouraged to attend a Baptism Preparation Session, held monthly. Adults who want to learn more about the Faith to be baptised as an adult, we have a Rite for Christian Initiation for Adults program.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, is a sacred encounter with God’s mercy and healing. At St Gregory the Great Parish, children usually prepare for their First Reconciliation in Grade 3 or above through a structured program including parent-child sessions. A Baptismal Certificate is required. The sacrament helps children grow in faith and understand the power of forgiveness. In addition to scheduled celebrations, individual confessions are heard every Saturday, offering parishioners a regular opportunity for spiritual renewal and grace.
Holy Communion (Eucharist)
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is a sacred and joyful milestone in the Catholic faith, where one receives the Body and Blood of Christ. At St Gregory the Great Parish, children typically prepare for their First Communion through parish-led formation. Regular Masses are celebrated on weekends and weekdays, providing many opportunities to participate in the Eucharist. For parishioners with mobility challenges, Holy Communion can be brought to their homes upon request. This sacrament deepens our relationship with Christ and unites us more closely with the Church community through grace, reflection, and shared faith.
Confirmation
Confirmation is the final Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Church, strengthening the grace of Baptism and sealing the candidate with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. At St Gregory the Great Parish, Confirmation is typically celebrated in the later years of primary school. Candidates renew their baptismal promises and are anointed by the bishop or a delegated priest. Sponsors must be practicing Catholics who guide the candidate in faith. This sacrament empowers young people to live as committed disciples of Christ, deepening their connection to the Church and preparing them for a life of active faith.
Weddings
The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred covenant uniting a husband and wife in the love of Christ. At St Gregory the Great Parish, weddings are celebrated with reverence and joy, reflecting the bond between Christ and His Church. Couples are encouraged to contact the parish at least six months in advance to begin marriage preparation, which includes spiritual formation and planning. At least one partner must be a parishioner. The Church offers guidance and support to help couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but for a lifelong, faith-filled marriage rooted in love and grace.
Communion in the Home
St Gregory the Great Parish offers Communion in the Home for parishioners who are elderly, ill, or have mobility challenges and cannot attend Mass. This ministry ensures that all members of our faith community remain spiritually connected and nourished through the Eucharist. Trained ministers or clergy visit homes regularly to share prayer, fellowship, and Holy Communion. Families or carers are encouraged to contact the parish office to arrange visits. This outreach reflects the Church’s mission to care for all, bringing Christ’s presence and comfort to those in need.
Funeral
At St Gregory the Great Parish, we offer compassionate support to families grieving the loss of a loved one. The Catholic Funeral Rites include a Vigil (Wake), Funeral Mass, and Rite of Committal, each offering prayerful hope in the resurrection. Our priests and pastoral team assist with planning, including Scripture, music, and liturgy choices. Funerals are typically arranged through a funeral director, who coordinates with the parish. We also offer ongoing support through our Grief and Loss Ministry. In times of sorrow, we walk with you in faith, offering comfort, prayer, and the promise of eternal life in Christ.
