Parish Pastoral Council

Your Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is a group of committed parishioners working closely with our priests to help guide and shape the life of our parish. We listen, plan, encourage, and pray for ways our community can grow in faith, outreach and sustainability. We meet regularly to discern and review how we are tracking with our pastoral vision—and we’re always open to ideas and feedback from you.

Together, with Fr Charles and Fr Anton, your current PPC includes: Francis Yim, Yvonne Tan, Marcello Diamante, Mary Tonti-Filippini, Dot Haynes OAM, Margaret O’Donnell OAM, Natalie Balinger (School Principal), Vera Arief (Secretary), David Hii (Business Manager), Alfred Ablaza (PPC Chair), Fr Anton Aseervathampillai (Assistant Parish Priest), Fr Charles Balnaves (Parish Priest)

You can speak with any of us at Mass, through the parish office, or during upcoming parish events. We’re here to serve with you and for you.

Our Vision

To be a vibrant and vital community of two Catholic parishes that intentionally reaches out to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.

Living Parish Renewal: What Does it Look Like?

VIBRANT – A parish full of life and faith where people are welcomed, discipleship is nurtured, and joy is shared. We aim to make Jesus known through warm relationships, inspiring liturgies, and spiritual growth.

VITAL – A community that listens, adapts and responds with hope. We seek to understand our world, reach out with compassion, and step boldly into our future with trust in God’s plan.

VIABLE – A parish that stewards its gifts wisely—people, property and finances—ensuring we are sustainable and ready to serve both now and in the years to come.

Our 2025 Priority Focus Areas

These are the top three areas where we are inviting every parishioner to participate, support, and spread the word.

Evangelisation – Go and Make Disciples (Led by Margaret O’Donnell)

We are all called to share the Good News. This year, we are focusing on:

  • ALPHA Programs – inviting people to explore life’s big questions in a welcoming, non-judgemental space.
  • Speaker Evenings – drawing inspiration from saints like Blessed Carlo Acutis who show us how to live and share faith today.
  • Youth Evangelisation – encouraging our young people to be bold and creative in bringing others to Jesus.

How you can help: Invite a friend. Join a session. Be part of the welcome. You don’t need to be an expert—just open-hearted.

Worship – Nourished by the Eucharist (Led by Mary Tonti-Filippini)

Liturgical life is at the heart of our parish. This year’s focus includes:

  • Launching a Liturgy Sub-Committee – to enrich the quality, planning, and preparation of our liturgies.
  • Seasonal Reflection – asking how Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter can draw us closer to God.
  • Liturgical Music, Environment, and Participation – ensuring every Mass helps us to encounter the sacred.

How you can help: Serve in liturgical ministries, suggest ideas, or simply pray more intentionally during Mass.

Welcoming – Hospitality That Reflects Christ (Led by Marcello Diamante)

Our parish strives to be a place where everyone feels seen, valued and invited into community. In 2025, we are strengthening our efforts to:

  • Establish a dedicated Welcome Ministry that connects personally with newcomers.
  • Create and distribute Welcome Packs for new parishioners.
  • Improve signage, communication, and presentation to ensure people feel informed and at home.
  • Engage grassroots feedback and ideas from parishioners on how we can be more open and inviting.

How you can help: Smile. Say hello. Join the welcoming team. Invite someone to coffee after Mass. Every act of hospitality plants a seed of faith.

Let’s Step Forward – Together

This plan is an invitation. It is your PPC’s heartfelt response to where we believe the Holy Spirit is leading St Gregory the Great Parish. Each of us has a part to play. Each of us is called.

Let us be a parish that brings people closer to Jesus—not just through our words, but by the warmth of our welcome, the depth of our worship, the courage of our service, and the strength of our community.

Together, let’s make St Greg’s vibrant, vital, and viable—because in doing so, we help bring the light and hope of Christ to our world.
